ST. PETERSBURG CITY HIGHLIGHTS
with visit to the imposing and extravagant Saint Isaac's Cathedral
This City Tour, leaded by English-speaking Resident Tour-Guide, gives you an overview of the history and geography of St. Petersburg, one of the world's most amazing travel destinations.
You will observe all the main highlights of the city: the Mariinsky Theater, the Hermitage, the Winter Palace, the Palace Square, the Spit of Vasilievsky Island, the Bronze Horseman Statue, the Peter's Log Cabin, the Cruiser Aurora, the Smolny Convent, the Nevsky Prospect, the Peter-and-Paul Fortress, the Square of Arts, the Church of Our Savior on the Spilled Blood and more.
The Tour also takes you inside the lavishly decorated St. Isaac's Cathedral.
The majestic St. Isaac's is one of the World’s largest and most opulent domed cathedral.
It took 40 years to construct, under French-born architect Auguste de Montferrand's direction, from 1818 to 1858.
The neoclassical exterior of St. Isaac's barely hints at the riotously rich interior, decorated with various sorts of marble, semiprecious stones and mosaics. The iconostasis is framed by ten malachite and two lapis lazuli columns. The Cathedral's doors are covered in reliefs, patterned after the celebrated doors of the Battistero di San Giovanni in Florence.
Today the Cathedral is a Museum, but since 1992 it has been holding religious services on special occasions.
Visitors willing to climb 300 steps will get a spectacular view of St. Petersburg.
